Normally, I don’t focus much on politics or at least I try not to. The current administration is hard to avoid though. Last night there was a rally where supporters of the president chanted “send her back” and that struck a nerve with me for some reason. Being someone who migrated to these great states of America or once great states? It’s scary. I see family and friends agreeing with the go back rhetoric and I wonder what their logical reasoning is for how this is an acceptable way to behave in the year 2019. Some say it has nothing to do with race but I feel that the second the situation can be interpreted as race motivated the conversation should end. The conversation should be about something else. For me even if the president does not mean it in terms of race it opens up the door for those who mean it as a race thing to take that on act on it. It opens a door that brings us back 70 years. The race issue in this country still has not been handled the best way it can be. There are still unresolved issues and discrimination that happens everyday and for that reason we can easily go back to what it was before. It opens up the door for people who have an issue with people of different races to feel comfortable telling others to go back. In the year 2019 no one should feel comfortable saying that to another person and the president is leading the way on allowing this whether he means to or not. Congress fears that impeachment will propel the president in terms of the 2020 election but by doing nothing they’re just as complicit in allowing the racial division to again widen in this country.

I fear for the future whether it’s two more years or whether it’s four. This will not be easy to come back from.
